wir oft sehn die Menschen auf Erden
wie sie sorglos leben dahin
während im Glaubenskampfe wir stehen;
wo ist in all dem Kämpfen der Sinn?
Sei nur getrost, du wirst es verstehen.
Nur bleibe Jesu im Glauben treu.
Sei nur getrost, bald wirst du es sehen,
wenn Gott macht alles herrlich und neu.
2. Wenn
der Versucher hat uns bedränget
und unsre Kraft am Ende schon ist,
fragen wir zweifelnd Gott unsern Vater,
ob er in größter Not uns verlässt.
3. Drum
Streiter Christi, geh tapfer weiter
und trage froh die tägliche Last.
Jesus wird einst die Krone dir geben,
wenn du den Lauf vollendet hier hast.

4. Often when death has taken our loved ones,
Leaving our home so lone and so drear,
Then do we wonder why others prosper,
Living so wicked year after year.
5. “Faithful till death,” saith
our loving Master;
Short is our time to labor and wait;
Then will our toiling seem to be nothing,
When we shall pass the heavenly gate.
6. Soon we will see our dear, loving Savior,
Hear the last trumpet sound through the sky;
Then we will meet those gone on before us,
Then we shall know and understand why.
